There are things you should know before you decide to fork over your time and money. When you look up Krav Maga, you’ll find a lot of huge promises…. ‘disarm an armed attacker in seconds’ …. ‘learn to fight multiple opponents at once’. This is all great marketing ploys for Krav Maga. They actually make you believe that you’ll transform into Jason Bourne…. but I can tell you as a martial artist, instructor, and fighter that these promises are just like Jason…fiction.
Krav Maga is NOT a based on the Reality of Combat
Krav Maga training is based on a lot of choreographed martial arts – meaning that you’ll train specific self-defense techniques over and over again knowing ahead of time what’s coming so you’ll look like a total bad-ass in the gym. But the truth is, in a fight, with that kind of training you’ll be helpless against an attacker won’t telegraph what he’s going to hit you with. Think about it…boxers train all there life to defend the jab…and you know what??..they still get hit with it from time to time! Why? Because fights are fast, dynamic, and unpredictable. And in Krav Maga, they’ve completely taken that element of reality out so you can feel like you’ve learned self-defense skills without actually learning it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s possible Krav Maga might be better exercise than your cardio kickboxing class at a fitness club. As a self-defense system, though, the way that Krav Maga is advertised makes big claims that just don’t stand up to the reality of fighting.
Why Muay Thai?
When I decided upon a martial art to do in my after hours, I saw Muay Thai and instantly knew at my core that this was something that would not only show me how to overpower attackers. I knew the training would transform my body and mind. The art was simple and easy to understand, utilizing only 4 weapons…the fist, elbow, knee, and kick….and training them to absolute mastery…so that when you need them the most, you deliver them hard and fast, straight from your reflexes.
Muay Thai is about learning to strike powerfully, fast and accurate. The training will reveal to you how to throw every ounce of your body, making it a ridiculously effective workout for losing weight and getting ripped. Don’t get me wrong, it’s challenging… but through the training, you’ll sharpen your focus, develop grit, and chisel your body into a model of strength, composure, and confidence.
There’s No Magic Pill To Learning Any Skill
If you’ve made it to this point in your life, you already know, there’s no such thing as diet pills that will cause you to magically lose 50 lbs. of body fat….no ab machine that will instantly give you six pack abs, and no choreographed techniques, like Krav Maga, that you can practice that will turn you from an average person to someone highly trained in self-defense.
